Our Story

A century of bayside hospitality, faithfully kept and gently reimagined.

The Beginning

The bayside inn that started it all.

In 1914, the original Old Causeway Inn opened its doors at the gateway to Long Beach Island — a blue-collar gathering spot where bay men, clammers, fishermen and travelers shared a drink, a story, and a meal that tasted of the water just outside the window.

The Inn stood for nearly seventy years through hurricanes, prohibition, and the rise of LBI as a summer destination. When the original was eventually lost, its spirit stayed put — in the marsh, in the memory of regulars, in the way LBI welcomes a stranger like an old friend.

Today, just down the road from where it all began, we honor that legacy: pairing the warmth of an old-time bayside tavern with the craft of a modern steak and oyster house. Same bay. Same hospitality. A new chapter.

A New Chapter, Same Bay

More than a century after the original opened, we're still doing what The Old Causeway has always done — serving fresh local seafood, gathering the community, and putting LBI hospitality on every plate.

Today
What We Stand For

The way we do things, every day.

Local & Sustainable

We're certified Ocean Friendly. We source from local growers and watermen. We've recycled hundreds of thousands of oyster shells back to Barnegat Bay through our co-op.

Fresh, Always

The day's oysters change daily. The catch comes from boats we know by name. Our steaks are wood-fired, our sauces are house-made, and nothing gets a microwave.

Community First

We host fundraisers, hire from the island, support the schools, and treat every guest like a neighbor. Because on LBI, they probably are.

We're part of the Tide Table Group — seven LBI restaurants and a market, all working from the same playbook: source local, host warmly, and treat the bay like a partner instead of a resource.
